North Sighthill Triple Blowdown |

Sunday 25th September 2011 saw the end of the high rise blocks in North Sighthill. Lewis Reynolds winner of the poster competition, Maureen and William Murdoch longest serving tenants and Councillor Norman Work pushed the plunger at around 11.15am which saw Glenalmond, Weir and Henderson Courts come crashing to the ground in an implosion. Site clearance is currently underway. The demolition marks a significant step in the regeneration for the area and the next step will be to finish the rehousing in the low rise to allow for the new Council housing to be built. There will be no more blow downs like this for a long time in Edinburgh; you can recall some of the demolitions by following these links: Triple blow down, North Sighthill: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2mPus9jKTc Laura Welch member of North Sighthill Residents Association and former tenant, spoke to STV news: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=UJaRRl-n9Jk Broomview House was demolished in September 2008: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6_rxoI7wOM
